David Raizman
June 21, 2017
David Raizman has twice been Interim Dean of this College, has served as both our Department Head of Media Arts and Department Head of Fashion and Visual Studies, and was twice the Academic Associate Dean of the College. He is the recipient of the Harold Myers Award for Outstanding Service to the University and, in 2013, Dr. Raizman was named Distinguished University Professor. His book, The History of Modern Design, is the standard text for courses on the history of design and the decorative arts, and he has published numerous articles in prestigious design journals while presenting at dozens of conferences the world over. David was instrumental in the College joining the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD), and now the vast majority of our programs enjoy this important accreditation. David represents the best attributes of senior faculty as a scholar, as a teacher, and in service to others.
David has served as the College’s institutional representative to NASAD and has been active with the College Art Association. He is on the Board and has served as the Treasurer for the International Center for Medieval Art, and is on the editorial board of Design & Culture. Beyond serving on more College and University committees than can be mentioned, David is a wonderful and caring teacher who has left a mark on generations of our design students. He deservedly enjoys an international reputation in his field as a highly respected scholar and as a wonderful man. He has mentored many of us, including the current Dean who is, especially grateful for his good counsel which helped him from running off the tracks on far more than one occasion.
